Smithsonian's "A Seat at the Table" Virtual Event

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a Smithsonian Institution museum located in Washington, D.C. The museum is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive cultural destination soley devoted to showcasing the African American story and its impact on American history.

Event goals

  • Host "A Seat at the Table: The Triumphs and Challenges of Black Education," an interactive virtual program for participants to consider challenging questions about race, identity, and economic justice

  • Design an event space that includes the ability to play pre-recorded videos, host panel discussions, audience Q&A, and small group discussions

  • Record stage presenations for those who could not attend live

Social hour experience

  • Virtually hosted over 120 people across 15 tables to mimic their in-person galas using a Hybrid event layout, allowing attendees to engage in conversations at a Table while viewing Stage panel presentations

  • Played background music and pre-recorded videos to welcome attendees into the event prior to introductions and panel discussions

  • Hosted panel discussions featuring, economists, authors, organizers, and community leaders and allowed the audience to submit questions via chat

  • Played pre-recorded videos to introduce speakers and shared recordings of panel discussions on their website following the event
