Which ad network is best for my inventory?

In my few years of experience in the online media space, I’ve come to realize that this question is probably the most frequently asked question amongst website publishers / app developers and unfortunately there is no right answer. I believe that the right answer here lies with every individual publisher. I actually started my career in finance and I think that this question is the same type of question that is commonly asked of money managers: how best do I allocate my savings? After asking this question you’ll go through a questionnaire about risk tolerances, goals, etc., until the money manager has come up with the “perfect” savings plan for you.

If I was to ask a questionnaire trying to find you the best ad network for your site, I’d want to know some or all of the following things:

  • How much traffic do you have?
  • What is your demographic?
  • What ad units are prominent on your page?
  • How much do you care about frequent payments?
  • How much do you care about hands on account management?
  • How much does revenue fluctuation bother you?
  • How important is the trust factor with the network?
  • How important is the network’s brand?

The list could go on and on. However, the greatest thing about our world is that online you can test often to find your best option. Remember, there is no “perfect” asset allocation plan just like there is no perfect ad network. If you are on our blog it’s likely that you are working with us. Even though I’d love all of your traffic, I would urge each and every individual publisher to test out their options and let us know what we’re doing right as well as what we’re doing wrong.
